Sheepfolds Sheepfolds is a public artwork by the internationally renowned artist Andy Goldsworthy commissioned by Cumbria County Council and made up of many separate parts or events spread across sites throughout Cumbria. By using existing or ruined sheepfolds, Andy Goldsworthy has created environmentally responsive pieces that connect directly with farming traditions and the history and geography of Cumbria. He has breathed new life into these structures by rebuilding or restoring them and adding a permanent feature like a cone, a boulder or a cairn. In others, he has created a temporary piece, a carpet of ferns, a melting snowball or a sandstone arch. Although each fold can be enjoyed for its own special settings, what is unique about this public artwork is its scale as a whole. Website |
