• Cartmel Agricultural Show, Cartmel : The old traditions of Lakeland agriculture are alive and well and celebrated in style at this wonderful day out.  Bring the family to see the livestock shows, marquee competitions, rural and countryside displays and main ring attractions.

• Lake District Sheepdog Trial, near Kendal : There are a few things as deeply rural and utterly mesmerizing as watching these expert working animals round up their flocks.  Experience it all first hand whilst enjoying a wealth of other traditional displays, sports and crafts.

• Mintfest on the road : 15 performers from Ghana and Burkina Faso combine traditional and modern acrobatic dance and circus skills with stunning African music.  The highlight of their show is the 12 metre bamboo pole which a young acrobat climbs up and changes from a young sportswoman into an African Queen.  Full of charisma Bani Obashwe are ambassadors for an Africa which is confident, peaceful ad future-oriented.

• Mintfest : After its phenominal success in 2007, Mintfest returns bringing the very best in outdoor performance from across the world to Kendal for 3 days in August.More than 200 performers from across the world in shows you will never have seen before and may never see again.  Mintfest makes the most of a unique location, bringing the parks and streets of Kendal alive with performances in six outdoor venues spread across the town.

• Kirkby Lonsdale Victorian Fair : Step back to Victorian times and immerse yourself in the splendour of an age gone by as good old-fashioned entertainment takes to the charming streets of Kirkby Lonsdale - including brass bands, jugglers, singers, Punch and Judy shows, fire eaters, stilt walkers, comedy, dancing and glorious period costume everywhere.

• Westmorland County Show, Crooklands, near Kendal : It's the annual county showcase for all things agricultural.  Featuring non-stop events including Cumberland and Westmorland wrestling, marquees, over 350 trade stands and Countryside Pursuits Exhibition.

• Ulverston Lantern Procession : Don't be in the dark, come and see what the fuss is all about.  Special workshops will help you carefully craft your own stunning lantern and then you can show it off through the town's streets in a colourful event for all the family.

• Kendal Mountain Film Festival : For everyone from serious mountaineers to armchair enthusiasts this is the unmissable event of the year.  A scintillating programme of films, books, art and photography, debates, presentations, film making, entertainment, humour and drama.
