Fold

Fold is an artist-led initiative that aims to promote and provide access to contemporary art in the rural environment. We do this by commissioning new work by rural artists from across the UK and beyond, working with rural communities to increase awareness and relevance of contemporary arts practice and exhibiting cutting edge work by artists from rural and urban backgrounds in its exhibition space in Kirkby Stephen. 

Past projects include creating a flock of life-sized sheep from 3 ½ tonnes of local sand with local people, paper automata workshops and exhibitions by over 50 artists. Current projects include setting up a network resource for artists in Cumbria incorporating a countywide festival of artist-led events.
