South Lakeland District Council The Playbus pictured provides a touring play service
including 'Double Decker Arts' to rural comunities in South
Lakeland. The livery of the playbus was a commissioned piece by
local artist Maddi Nicholson. There is an exciting and vibrant arts scene in South Lakeland
with a very strong arts infrastructure. The district has a wealth
of arts organisations, artists and voluntary groups who all
contribute to providing a high quality year round arts programme
for local residents and visitors. We support the arts and arts development in the district through
the Arts and Events service and its main grants programme. The arts and events service endeavours to make available a
broad-based, quality, district-wide arts and events programme for
the participation and enjoyment of residents and visitors both by
direct and indirect provision.
To achieve this, we work in partnership with individual artists,
groups and key organisations in the district to establish a
balanced programme which responds to local needs and reflects both
the interests of a rural and urban population.
Funding via grant aid is given to a number of organisations and
groups to support the significant arts programme in the
district. Grants are also available to support local arts
development initiatives and arts events within communities,
particularly in rural areas.
