Artgene

Art Gene in Barrow-in-Furness is an Artist Led initiative, founded in 2002 by Artists Stuart Bastik and Maddi Nicholson with Julie Hammerton, Artistic Director of Barracudas Ltd. Art Gene's mission is to establish a facility of local, national and international significance for Artists and Art Led initiatives, dedicated to the production and exhibition of new works of contemporary art, through the provision of affordable managed workspaces and a gallery.
 
Art Gene occupies two thirds of a large, purpose designed Edwardian building, formerly Barrow Technical College which comprises four 572sq.m/15,000sq.ft of studio and residency spaces, a rehersal/conference space, a functions landing and a spacious contemporary art gallery. The Art Gene Gallery is a prestigious white space which has hosted exhibitions from nationally and internationally renowned artists.
