Barracudas Barracudas Limited is an art organisation creating carnival, visual performance, costume, music and events. One of its main projects is Barracudas Carnival Band, which is produced every year at its centre in Barrow-in-Furness. This popular troupe, which has over one hundred performers, appears at carnivals and festivals throughout the country, from local events in Cumbria to the famous Notting Hill Carnival in London. The 2003 Show is entitled “Guernica” – which is a celebration of people’s determination and resilience to survive man-made destruction and a lament for those who don’t. The company also offers educational and practical workshops including residencies, one-day training, accredited training in making and performance skills, placements and work experience. Music – Percussion
We provide workshops in percussion techniques on a variety of percussion instruments. Music – Brass
Brass workshops in both saxophone and brass instruments are held regularly for beginners and improvers. Dance for all
Dance workshops are suitable for all, both women, men and children. We hold special sessions for younger children and their parents/carers. Stilts
Our stilt tuition is suitable for those aged 10+. Costume
Costumes are produced by a professional design and making team. If you become a performer with Barracudas, we will make a costume especially for you. Help from people with sewing and craft skills is always welcome – some of our volunteers have gone on to work professionally. Costume Services
We will make your costumes for you. For film, theatre, street events, community parades, special events – a design and/or fabrication/hire service is available for the creative sector. Recent projects include Queen’s Golden Jubilee Parade, Baybeat Street Band, Whitewood & Fleming.
