A place for making art: by artists, for people, with people

Lanternhouse is a legacy of the inspirational band of artist-mavericks who formed Welfare State International. Taking the best of our WSI heritage, our new vision is to create new art that makes connections between artists, people and life.
Three things to know about Lanternhouse:

1. We accommodate all sorts of artists wanting to undertake research or to develop thrilling ideas.
2. We commission artists to make art that engages people in new and unexpected ways.
3. Open Door is a mixed bag of one off events, workshops, talks, film nights, digital arts, music or performance for anyone and everyone.

Other things to know…

We have a workshop where we can help artists and artistic companies to create large-scale work.                                                                                                                         

We like to help other companies realise their artistic ambitions by giving them access to Lanternhouse and the Workshop, for example, we support Lakes Alive in this way. 

We also have a large outdoor amphitheatre next to the workshop, where, if the weather is good, we can organise outdoor events.                                                                                     

We have rooms available to hire for workshops, parties, weddings and conferences.
