Old Laundry Theatre

The Old Laundry Theatre is an intimate professionally run theatre seating up to 280 people, situated in the heart of Bowness-on-Windermere with access from Rayrigg Road or Crag Brow.  Fully accessible by wheelchairs and equipped with a hearing loop, the theatre operates an annual Autumn Festival in Sept/Oct/Nov providing drama, dance, music and comedy from one man improvisation to ensemble pieces, classical to contemporary music and traditional dance to innovative comedy, attracting audience members both nationally and from all over Cumbria.

Since its inception thirteen years ago, the Old Laundry Theatre has been host to many household names.  One of only six theatres in-the-round in the UK it gives an intimacy and involvement not achieved at many larger venues.

The Old Laundry has a unique link with Sir Alan Ayckbourn who is a trustee of the theatre and hosts one of his plays each year.  Other trustees include:

Alan Rickman who has appeared to talk about his film work, Paul Allen, Broadcaster (Kaleidoscope and Night Waves) journalist, writer and Trustee for sheffield Theatres, Griff Rhys Jones and Victoria Wood who have both performed benefits for the theatre.  Another trustee, Peter James, Theatre Director and Principal of the London School of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA) has brought his final year students to perform at the Festival which has been a wonderful recent innovation for the programme.

The theatre also has a thriving 'Friends' scheme with many members who come to nearly all events programmed and is well attended by local school groups.
