Pro Nobis Singers The choir was formed in 1969 when a group of friends met together informally in one another's homes to sing madrigals. It now numbers approximately thirty singers and, although Kendal-based, draws its membership from a wide area. Known particularly for its performances of music from the Renaissance and Baroque peirods, the choir also has a commitment to contemporary music. Works by local composers, Robin Field (a founder member of the choir) and Adrian Self have frequently featured in the choir's programmes in recent years. In 2005, the choir commissioned a new work by Humphrey Clucas, and in 2006 sang a newly-commissioned work by Paul Barker and music by the Estonian composer, Veljo Tormis, at the Swaledale Festival. The Singers have worked closely with professional instrumental groups including The Rose Consort of Viols, San Petronio Players, His Majesty's Sagbutts and Cornetts, the Orchestra of the Golden Age, Finchcock's Baroque and more recently the Navarra String Quartet. Entry to the choir is by invitation only and potential new members are always welcome to apply for an audition. Contact Clive Walkley
