CUMBRIA VOLUNTARY ARTS SECTOR
ACTION RESEARCH
TWO-YEAR CONTRACT OPPORTUNITY Cumbria County Council and Arts Council England North West have initiated action research into how best to facilitate the growth and sustainability of Cumbria’s Voluntary Arts Sector. This opportunity has been funded by Cumbria County Council’s Cultural Policy Unit, Cumbria County Council’s Voluntary Sector Infrastructure Development Fund and Arts Council England North West. Eden Arts and Cumbria Cultural Skills Partnership are delivering this action research that aims: To increase and improve the sustainability of voluntary arts organisations in Cumbria through the delivery of a series of bespoke training opportunities. (Exploring any appropriate accreditation models and making links with relevant national initiatives eg. Youth arts awards). To identify and bring together key partners who can assist the development of a thriving voluntary arts sector in Cumbria. To build development links between the voluntary and commercial arts sector. To explore and test out the most effective creative communication and information dissemination systems for Cumbria’s Voluntary Arts Sector. To establish mechanisms to market Cumbria’s Voluntary Arts Sector, raising the profile of what it delivers and the opportunities it creates for participants. To mainstream access to arts volunteering. To initiate action research that evaluates most appropriate methods of increasing arts volunteering opportunities. As part of this work a survey of the Voluntary and Community Arts Organisation in Cumbria will be undertaken. We anticipate that a detailed forecast of the needs of the voluntary sector will emerge from this survey. In January (2007) an Information Fair is planned and our aim is to offer a service that will be relevant and useful.
